Tails from Greece Rescue is a non-profit volunteer organization, currently
registered as a Sole Proprietorship, which offers a rehoming program for rescued dogs/cats to a few private animal
rescuers in Greece.
These dogs/cats have had a rough start in their short lives but are fortunate
enough to have been rescued from such horrible fates as being stuffed (alive) inside a garbage bag & tossed
into a garbage bin, deliberate poisoning, starvation, being hit by a car or attacked by other stray dogs; or having the misfortune
of being a hunting dog who doesn't like to hunt and therefore is confined to a small, and usually filthy cage, 24/7.
So, we ask that their new families be understanding and patient, realizing these
dogs/cats may experience some short-term adjustment issues in the beginning as they learn to trust and get comfortable
in their new home. For the most part, these dogs/cats have never known love nor even know what a toy is. They
must learn everything there is to know about being a loved companion.
We do our best to match the dog/cat with the home that best suits its needs.
We therefore do not always adopt on a first-come, first-serve basis. The are times when several applications may be
considered for a particular dog/cat and we appreciate your patience while the selection process is carried out.
Check out the 'Happy Tails' page to see the dogs/cats who've already found loving families.
All dogs/cats must be spayed/neutered within 3 months of being adopted, if not already
done, at the applicant's expense and proof must be provided for our records.
The adoption approval process includes an adoption application, veterinary and
personal reference checks and a home visit as the final step in the adoption approval process.
We are available to offer advice and guidance during the first few months following
adoption so, although it may be stressful during this time, we ask that you give your new companion a fair chance to settle
in. Any dog/cat rehomed from a rescue program needs time and patience. In some instances consultation with an
animal behaviourist may be necessary.
All dogs/cats have received their rabies vaccination and are microchipped,
dewormed, defleaed and, depending on their age and length of time in rescue, may have received their vaccination
boosters. All dogs/cats travel with their Pet Passport which contains a record of their vaccination history and
a sign-off by the vet that the dog/cat has no illness that would jeopardize its health during flight.
If you see a dog/cat who you'd like to adopt, please request an Adoption Application via
email to diannealdan@sympatico.ca and you'll be contacted as soon as possible.
Please realize that, although the above information may give you second thoughts
about adopting one of our animals, we are as honest as possible with applicants; unfortunately there may be some
unknown factors that don't become evident until the dog/cat has been placed in its new home for a few months.
Thank you for your interest and if, for some reason, you're not in a position to adopt,
perhaps you could be a foster home or make a donation to our Rehoming Fund to help us help more dogs/cats as we rely totally
on donations from those who believe in our efforts to help the strays of Greece.
